Accreditation and Recognition

Christian Brothers University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award the associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, and the master’s degree. Christian Brothers University is a member of the National Catholic Educational Association and the Tennessee Association of Colleges. Most programs are approved for veterans’ training. Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (111 Market Place, Suite 1050; Baltimore, MD 21202-4012; telephone number 410-347-7700). The University is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and approved by the State Department of Education of Tennessee as a Teacher Training Institution. Christian Brothers University is in full compliance with Title II Teacher Education Report Card reporting mandates. The CBU Nursing Program is fully accredited by the TN Board of Nursing.

The baccalaureate degree program in nursing at Christian Brothers University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org).

The ARC-PA has granted Accreditation-Provisional status to the Christian Brothers University Physician Assistant Program sponsored by Christian Brothers University.

Accreditation-Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program's ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding Accreditation-Provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students.

Accreditation-Provisional does not ensure any subsequent accreditation status. It is limited to no more than five years from matriculation of the first class.

The Bachelor of Science program in Chemistry is approved and fully accredited by the American Chemical Society. Graduates of the program will be certified by the American Chemical Society for completion of a program approved by the American Chemical Society.
