ACCT 312 Accounting Systems

This course examines the role of accounting information systems (AIS) in supporting business processes, organizational control, and managerial decision making. Topics include the relationship between business strategy and information systems design, data analytics and visualization, data modeling, relational databases and SQL, and enterprise systems. Business process topics cover the sales and collections, purchases and payments, and conversion cycles, with emphasis on risk identification and internal controls within each cycle. Additional topics include cybersecurity and emerging technologies including blockchain and artificial intelligence. The course develops practical skills in data analysis, database querying, and the application of artificial intelligence tools to accounting and business problems.

Prerequisite

ACCT 364 with a grade of "C" or higher. A grade of "C" or higher in this course is required to proceed into ACCT 412.
