ENG 341 Nineteenth-Century American Novel

This course follows the rise of the American novel during the long nineteenth century and explores novels in their social, political, and literary contexts. The course examines the ways the novel contributed to, responded to, and challenged the formation of a national identity during a century of dramatic social, cultural, technological, and regional shifts.
