Community Engaged Learning

Courses with the Community-Engaged learning (CEL) attribution involve partnership with local agencies and community members in the larger Memphis area through community-based service, projects, and problem solving. The community engagement component of a course directly relates to the course content such that a student’s engagement experience contributes to a course’s learning goals; in short, CEL demonstrates a correlation between learning and service. CEL enables students to work outside of the classroom or on behalf of a community partner in a meaningful way, putting into practice course content that benefits a community. It should also be noted that CEL projects may be based on or off campus and that an instructor may require time dedicated to service components outside of and in addition to the established class time.
