ART 201 Concepts and Creation in the Visual Arts
An introduction to the concepts, processes, and critical frameworks underlying contemporary artistic practice. Intended for art majors, minors, and students interested in art-related careers, this course combines lectures, discussions, critiques, readings, and studio projects to examine relationships between artistic production and everyday life. Students investigate contemporary social, cultural, and political issues influencing visual art while developing foundational skills in creative problem-solving, visual analysis, and conceptual development. Emphasis is placed on understanding contemporary art practices, engaging in critical dialogue, and developing informed responses to works of art within historical and contemporary contexts.
