ENG 445 Romantic Prose and Poetry
This course offers an in-depth study of Romantic-era literary culture, a period that saw the rise of mass media culture, the staging of multiple political and social revolutions, the abolition of the British slave trade, major innovations to the blank verse tradition, the emergence of proto-environmentalist and ecological writing, the proliferation of female literary networks, and the rise of the celebrity author. Romantic literature and literary forms offer a way into discussions of the place of the self in a tumultuous, rapidly changing society. Course may be repeated to a maximum of 9 hours under different subtitles.
Prerequisite
ENG 200-level literature course or Permission of the English faculty.
